A seminar on “Life Insurance” was organised by M/s Upbhokta Margdarshan Samiti (UMAS) on January 16, 2012 at Jodhpur.

Mr Rajendra Singh Solanki, Chairman, Jodhpur Development Authority (and an MLA) was the chief Guest for the occasion and he dwelt upon the need for protection of consumers as well as the need for consumer education. Mr R. K. Sharma, Deputy Director and Mr R Srinivasan, OSD of IRDA attended the seminar and gave presentations on “Health Insurance and Portability of Health Insurance” and “Protection of Policyholders’ Interests, Awareness about Grievance Redressal Mechanism” respectively. Mr M. D. Vaishnav, Retired District Judge and Ex Chairman of District Consumer Fora, Mr Pramod Jhanwar, Consumer Activist, Udaipur, Rajasthan and Mr Sanjay Arya Consumer Activist and Advocate District Hanumangadh spoke on Insurance Ombudsman Scheme, Consumer Rights in Consumer Protection Act and other Grievance Redressal Mechanism.

There were around 100 participants from the various Districts and States, with rural/semi-urban background and well acquainted with information on consumer rights.

Mr Liyakat Ali, Secretary, Upbhokta Margdarshan Samiti, summed up the proceedings by highlighting “Dos and Don’ts” in Motor and Health Insurance.
