A seminar on “Policies, Regulations & Consumer concerns in Insurance Sector” was organised by Voluntary Organization in Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE) on November 11, 2011.

The audience included students pursuing graduation and post-graduation in the financial sector and officials from various insurance companies. The welcome address was given by Prof Anu Singh Lather, Dean USMS, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

Mr Suresh Mathur, Senior Joint Director, IRDA attended the seminar and gave a special address on the subject. A presentation was made on policyholder protection with a special emphasis on the steps taken by IRDA.

Mr Ashim Sanyal, VOICE, spoke about innovative products launched by various insurance companies after liberalisation. Prof Sanjiv Mittal of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, spoke about the interest shown by students in insurance as a subject and mentioned that the university had already made insurance as part of course curriculum at the graduate and post-graduate levels and gave a brief history/ background of the insurance sector.

The other speakers spoke on the need for insurance, need to know the terms and conditions and benefits of insurance policies and the wide spectrum covered by general insurance. There were also presentations on Motor Insurance, Health insurance and the Ombudsman Scheme. The seminar was very useful for the students.
