Seminar on Motor Insurance


 

The Seminar on Motor Insurance was conducted by M/s Sankha Dhwani Rasta Surakshya Samiti on September 16, 2011 at Bhubaneswar.

 

The seminar was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education and Youth Service of Odisha state, Mr. Badri Naryaan Patra. It was attended by the Secretary, Civil Supplies (Odisha) Mr. Madhu Sudan Padhi and presided over by Ex-Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kulamani Deo.

 

Mr. H Ananthakrishnan, OSD, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and Mr. N. M. Behera, Deputy Director, IRDA participated in the seminar as speakers. Mr. Ananthakrishanan made presentation on “Compulsory Insurance under Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and its Legal Interpretations”, while Mr. Behera made a presentation on “Motor Insurance Own Damage Claims” including issues like ’Why is my claim not settled?’

 

Mr. Sisir Kanta Mishra, Mr. Ranjit Pati and Mr. Sarbeswar Sahoo from The New India Assurance Company made presentations on “Surveyors’ Roles”, “Motor Transit Risk” and “Carriers’ Legal Liability” respectively.

 

Mr. R. M. Mohanty made a presentation on “Police Laws during Accidents” and Mr. V. P. Pati (Inspector of Police) made a presentation on “Motor Insurance”. Mr. R. M. Mohanty discussed court awards and procedures during a loss and Mr. P. K. Mohapatra, Secretary of Sankha Dhwani Rasta Surakshya Samiti, informed the participants about statistics relating to road accidents in India and in Odisha.

 

The vote of thanks was given by Dr S. Das, Chief Regional Manager, The New India Assurance Company Limited.

The seminar covered a wide spectrum of topics on Motor Insurance. There were more than 100 participants including representatives of automobile dealers, transport operators organisations, truck owners associations, bus owners association and the general public. The seminar was well appreciated and a success
