Report on Seminars 2013-14

A seminar on ‘Consumer Awareness and Education on Life Insurance’ was organised by Islampur Ramkrishnapally Rural Welfare Society, (IRRWS) on 28th January, 2014 at Raiganj, District: Uttar Dinajpur (West Bengal). There were moreover than 200 participants in the seminar.

The seminar was started with the welcome address by Shri Muktar Hussain, President of IRRWS. Shri Romaprosad Mukherjee, Assistant Director, Consumer Affairs & Fare Business Practices, Govt. of Bengal gave his keynote address describing what are Insurance Contract and the state law on Consumer Protection. He interpreted that the state law is also applicable to the lifei nsurers as they are providing some kind of services to the consumers.

Shri Sudipta Bhattachary, Deputy Director, IRDA, participated in theseminar as speaker and gave a presentation on types of life insurance products,which incorporated special, emphasize on ULIP Policies and important links for generating consumer knowledge.

The session on ‘Importance of insurance in day-today life’ was jointly handled by Kazi Md Rafique, Ex-Member, Disctrict Consumer Forum & Shri Sidharta Shankar Bose, renowned Social Worker and they highlighted the basic importance of insurance by explaining that the Life Insurance provides financial security for the future of those youname as beneficiary on your life insurance policy. During the session on ‘Role of Agent and Brokers in area of insurance’ Shri Mritunjay Ghosh, Additional Chief Branch Manager, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Co. Ltd., focussed on the codes and conducts on Life Insurance Agents. He also elucidated many ethical practices with relevant examples. The topic on ‘Claim procedure for the life insurance policies’ was explained by Shri Apurba Kumar Saha, Asstt. Branch Manager (Sales), LIC of India that the claim settlement is one of the most important services that an insurance company can provide to its customers. Shri Shounak Gupta. Dy. Asstt. Director, Consumer Affairs & Fare Business Practices,Govt. of Bengal spoke on ‘Empowering consumers through insurance education by explaining Do’s and Don’t at the time buying the insurance policy. The consumer education material published by IRDA was also distributed among the participants.

Shri Abdul Alim Parvej, Secretary, IRRWS summed up the discussions of all the five session with vote of thanks to all the participants and distinguished guest, service providers etc.
