Report on Seminars 2013-14
A seminar on ‘Changing life through insurance cover ...’ was organised by Sankha Dhwani Rasta Surakhya Samiti (SDRSS) on 11th January, 2014 at Bhubaneswar (Odisha)
The seminar was inaugurated by Hon’ble Former Minister Agriculture, Amar Prasad Satpathy, Odisha. He said that mis-selling of insurance product is increasing day-by-day and IRDA’s intervention is imperative to control the situation. The audience included the representatives from Small Scale Industry, Advocates of Capital Bar Association, Housewives, Gas Dealer Association, Consumer Department Association, Labour Associationetc. The total number of participants were around 75.
Mr NM Behera, Deputy Director from IRDA, attended the seminar and spoke about the needs of Health Insurance, Universal Health Coverage. He also explained about the initiatives taken by IRDA including recent Health Insurance Regulations to protect the interest of the policyholders.
Shri Madhusudan Padhi, Principal Secretary,Civil Supply, Consumer Affairs, reiterated that there is huge scope for Health Insurance in the State though the Government has begun various social schemes for coverage giving insurance cover to the poor people. During the seminar, IRDA’s Consumer Education Material was also distributed among the participants.
At the end of session, Captain R.N. Sharma, Vice President, SDRSS gave a vote of thanks with the special observation that the seminar was found to be very useful for the participants.
